We need a commitment of improving sanitation for all and saving the many lives. This is the BOTH HandS Campaign- The Campaign will involve setting up an IKOtoilet every one hour in all urban areas and slums and hoping to do atleast 50,000 sanitation facilities in the next 5 years. This campaign is one of the efforts aimed at supporting the International Year of Sanitation (IYS) 2008 declared by General Assembly of the United Nations.

Under its flagship priorities, the Kenya Vision 2030 highlights the massive investment on rehabilitation of dams, canals, major irrigation schemes and yes expansion of water and sanitation in urban areas. Whereas the UN under the MDG target 10 states clearly, to halve by 2015, the proportion of people without sustainable access to safe drinking water and basic sanitation; the vision 2030 need to give priority to sanitation planning and investment if the country is to make any substantive contribution to the MDGs.

With such mammoth focus required to address innovation, we need to appreciate the initial steps taken by the government under the Ministry of Health, through the release of the new environmental sanitation and hygiene policy framework. What remain to be seen, is the actual implementation of the policy through support on innovations on addressing sanitation challenges in our municipalities, schools and homes through integration of alternative systems that are save and more sustainable for our communities. We need a commitment of improving sanitation for all and saving the many lives.
